For all of us, 2020 was a year we spent at home. And how we cook, entertain, work and relax in our homes have changed. Now, the look and function of kitchens are changing, too.
We are revealing what industry experts are expecting to change in kitchen trends for 2021 and we hope you will love It as much as we do!
COLOR POP
It’s time to say goodbye to many things in 2021, and a white kitchen is one of them. Kitchens are rife with color opportunities, from appliances and flooring, to window treatments and cabinets. If you’re not sure which color to go with, you’re not the only one. Choosing the perfect color is really a personal experience since we all even see the myriad shades in the same way. So, if you’re feeling some kind of way for green – it’s your lucky day, green is super popular these days. Forget about boring white, and let your imagination show. Most experts these days believe that the colors we choose automatically (from the first one) are in most cases chosen under the influence of current fashion. ‘Paint in the kitchen – whether on the walls or in the fittings – should last for at least five years, at least, so try to look beyond immediate trends and choose a color that will create such an atmosphere that you will feel good in the long run,’ they advise.
THE DARK SIDE KITCHEN CABINETS
You already know white kitchens are in the past, but have you ever considered doing your cabinets all black? Of course, we’re not talking about that gleaming black paint kitchen surface from the early 2000s paired with white lacquer. No, the new 2021 season seeks a more modern-classic look with muted and matte surfaces, where exquisite dark stone and veneered granite or marble give dramatic layering and a slight difference in shades to create dark sophistication. Black becomes livable, luxe, and inviting, with textured woods adding rustic, homely charm. Some would suggest that dark countertops contrast well with kitchen cabinets in lighter woods. Although black kitchens for many represent a big step forward in home decoration, it is true that this color easily suits a large number of styles. Elegant matte black surfaces perfectly complement the modern design, especially in combination with elements that do not have handles and can also be combined with different materials and colors.
REDESIGNED UPPER CABINETS
Designers are encouraging their clients to think outside the box, ditching bulky cabinetry and opting for open shelving or a blend of the two—or no upper storage at all. You have to agree, having your dishes right in front of you, where you can see them, makes choosing the one you need easier, plus, you can decorate that space with wisely chosen dishes where everyone can enjoy the sight.
EVERGREEN MATERIALS FOR KITCHEN CABINETS
As every year so far, this year several trends include already seen materials – metal, wood, and natural stone. These evergreen materials are inevitable when it comes to decorating any kitchen – whether because of its durability, ease of maintenance, resistance to kitchen conditions, or the ability to fit into any style. Stainless steel has certainly taken its place as one of the most popular materials in all kitchens and decorating styles, but that doesn’t mean other materials have nothing to offer. Bronze, brass, gold, and copper are very good choices, especially if you use them in your kitchen for interesting and unexpected additions. Marble will reign in kitchens again in 2021. This natural stone in shades of gray, white, and black has been an ideal choice for work surfaces for some time – but in 2021 it will also appear in kitchens elsewhere. As an interesting alternative to classics like wood, marble on kitchen fronts will give your kitchen an elegant look. This idea is especially interesting in performance on kitchen islands, where marble slabs can shine in larger dimensions.
VISUAL LIGHTING OF THE TOP ROW OF KITCHEN CABINETS
Using hanging metal frames as shelves or interior-lit glass cases, modern designers give a visual spaciousness to the top row of cabinets. Often in modern design projects, this configuration is completely absent, and cabinets are housed in a single-wall unit for all utensils and accessories. This is one of the creative ways to escape the classic and somewhat boring arrangement of the lower and upper layers of kitchen cabinets. The interior lighting of glass cases is not only practical but also gives a luxurious vibe to the composition of the decor. In this kitchen project, the glass shelves at the bottom of the kitchen island add a certain lightness and airiness to the whole composition of the space.
MARBLE KITCHEN CABINETS
It is a time of rich tough marble. The more colorful the marble, the better for the unmissable luxury and higher-level style. If there’s one thing that rushes to the scale of styles and shakes modern interiors, it’s the return of marble. Architects all over the world have a great passion for materiality and use the finest, high-quality materials in their design schemes. They say that very tough marble is returning to the world of design and has become synonymous with superior luxury. A popular choice for kitchens and bathrooms, it is also very sustainable; its durability, classic attributes and ability to survive passing trends make it a good investment. Marbles with naturally strong veins provide a strong impression and create textural harmony with other polished surfaces, metal and wood. Inside the kitchen, most of them use marble to create an attractive sink or kitchen island.
KITCHEN DESIGNS WITHOUT HANDLES
The latest contemporary designs are based on practicality, minimalism and simplicity. Technological advances in the automatic door opening and closing mean that it has become possible to get rid of handles in wall and floor kitchen cabinets. If you prefer a classic door without an automatic opening, the recessed, hidden handles made of aluminum profiles provide the same elegant look and can be coated with contrasting colors and materials to add aesthetics. Kitchen cabinets without handles are one of the biggest trends for 2021 for a more tidy, simplified and modern look of the kitchen. It’s all in the simplicity and focuses on the details of the kitchen cabinets.
ADDITIONAL STORAGE ELEMENTS
Pantry cabinets have been kitchen utensils for centuries and in recent years have established themselves as a must-have in modern homes.
Having a pantry makes perfect sense. All groceries are in one place and are not scattered on numerous wall cabinets, which would mean that householders will be able to be more organized in buying food. Another great advantage of the pantry and its storage capacity is that the kitchen does not have to be full of wall cabinets. It frees up entire walls that can be left blank or free, or you can decorate them with your favorite family photo or artwork that will give your kitchen an even more pleasant and creative atmosphere. If you have a smaller kitchen, a great option is larger kitchen storage cabinets that will replace the pantry.
HIDDEN CHARGING STATIONS
After the survey was conducted, 67% of respondents said they were interested in ways to integrate charging stations into kitchens. Since the beginning of the pandemic, there has been a noticeable increase in searches for recipes on the Internet, so it is important to have phones and tablets in the kitchen in addition to cooking appliances. Accessories like charging stations hidden in drawers or cabinets is one of the increasingly popular trends.
GOOD, OLD FASHIONED WOOD
Although woodworking has been out of fashion for a while, it now enjoys a revival. We have recently noticed an increase in walnut carpentry. Walnut is a rich, dark color, fine-grained that gives natural warmth and is highly valued because it provides a sense of instant luxury but also light wood has become trendy as well. In a difficult year, people seemed to long for interiors that exude lightness. And many have found that light wood mixed with other neutral parts like white and gray is a great way to create an airy palette with a touch of warmth. This has been particularly effective in the kitchen. Cabinets are a major player in the kitchen design world and have a huge impact on the final look of a design. It’s important to always select cabinet wood finishes that complement your wall color, whether a similar shade or a contrasting color.
ZELLIGE TILES
Now and then it seems to us that some material in interior design appears out of nowhere and begins to be applied everywhere. This is exactly the case with zellige tiles. These are handmade square tiles with a shiny finish. They originated in Morocco in the 10th century and have been extremely popular lately.
THE WORK TRIANGLE
The work triangle (the idea that the sink, refrigerator and refrigerator should be equally spaced) has long been considered the gold standard of efficient kitchen layouts, but this is not always possible – or necessary. In small spaces, you should worry less about achieving that perfect hob configuration, and more about maximizing worktops in general. Everything in a small kitchen is already pretty close to each other, so focus on what you can do to make your kitchen bigger – feel bigger.
Choose closets with open fronts, rather than expensive custom elements full of drawers and compartments, which may seem to increase space, but actually ultimately limit the flexibility of your storage.
Feel free to skip the visible trash can as well. Visible trash cans take up a lot of space, and the area under the sink can be used. A small trash can that is strategically placed in a corner or next to your cooking island actually forces you to take out the trash more often, which will ultimately make the kitchen clean.
DINING ISLANDS
We all know that islands and breakfast bars can provide a spot for casual dining, as well as workspace and storage. However, designers see this trend reaching a whole new level with dining islands. ‘This is where the kitchen island features an extension island dining area meaning you get the storage benefits of an island but also the addition of integrated dining,’ they explain. ‘When entertaining, we want to be able to integrate both cooking and socializing and what better way to do so than with built-in island seating.’
APPLIANCES IN DRAWERS – SOMETHING TO HIDE
Instead of wasting your space try integrating appliances with fronts that match your cabinets. Now, besides extra space, you have a classy and modern look.
It can be not only practical but also a stylish modern choice for kitchen design. The composition of wall cabinets with a niche in the middle is quite a popular design choice because they can neatly and elegantly store kitchen ovens, sinks or kitchen units. Designers often use different shades of the same color or textual duality to underline a niche. Ovens (even 2 or 3) integrated into the wall niche can easily be left as a decor accent. In some projects, they are visually accentuated by the lighting installations that surround them.
METAL KITCHEN CABINETS
The fashion of using metal inserts and metallic luster reaches speed. Not only precious brass, but classic chrome and stainless steel correct are also becoming very popular again. Only this time, intriguing choices such as parts torn from old factories and machines give an artistic and industrial vibe to the decoration of a modern kitchen. Metal as a constructive part of furniture elements, cubes and islands are present in new season kitchen design projects. Different from industrial aesthetics to the warm rustic shine of worn and worn metal constructions, metal materials give a unique charm and glamorous smile to the design of modern kitchens. Stimulate the imagination. Place a bold focal point – such as a kitchen island – just check out the magnificent presence of this linear kitchen made of brass.
